On the 23rd -29th of April we hosted Outview Film Festival 2010, our 4th Athens International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival. We screened a total of 52 films ranging from underground documentaries and experimental short films to crowd pleasing mainstream features thus covering all the spectre of LGBT life and culture. The exhibition by famous artists Tassos Vrettos and Kon.Rigos ‘It’s Not About Sex’ inspired by the Festival was featured in the art gallery next to the screening theatre to much critical appraise.
We had a special tribute to that everlasting witty gay icon, Quentin Crisp, dedicating to him our opening and closing features. Specifically our opening film was ‘ An Englishman in New York’ and our closing feature was ‘The Naked Civil Servant’. We also screened the short documentary ‘Uncle Denis’ by his nephew Adrian Goycoolea.
In collaboration with Goethe Institute we also had a special tribute to Monika Treut who presented 3 of her films at our festival, ‘My Father Is Coming’, ‘Gendernauts’ and ‘Ghosted’.
Michael Stock, fresh from his award in Berlinale 2010, presented his documentary ‘Postcard to Daddy’ and a heated debate with the audience followed the screening lasting one hour.
We are proud this year to have given out our first festival awards. The Jury Award was given to Michael Stock’s ‘Postcard To Daddy’ while the much coveted Audience Award was granted to ‘An Englishman In New York’.
In a surprise visit Reid Waterer, director of ‘You Can’t Curry Love’, made it to our festival and presented his film which received a much deserved applause.
We are also very proud to have had high profile names from our Greek Showbiz scene presenting films and performing at our closing ceremony, where the awards were given out.
We would like to thank our volunteers, the filmmakers, the distribution companies, our guests, our sponsors for all their help in making Outview Film Festival 2010 the best festival we have had in 4 years.
